- Ilya Sutskever · Co-founder & CEO

Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI) may be the purest expression of the race to superintelligence. Its founding announcement in June 2024 said: “Superintelligence is within reach. Building safe superintelligence (SSI) is the most important technical problem of our time.” The company promises “one goal and one product”.
Founders
- Ilya Sutskever, co-founder and former chief scientist of OpenAI, and a co-author of the landmark 2012 AlexNet paper that launched the deep learning era. He played a central role in OpenAI board’s brief removal of Sam Altman in November 2023, later saying he regretted it, and left OpenAI in May 2024.
- Daniel Gross, formerly of Apple’s SI efforts. He left SSI in mid-2025 to join Meta, after which Sutskever became CEO.
- Daniel Levy, a former OpenAI researcher.
Strategy
SSI describes a “straight shot” approach: no chatbots, no APIs and no commercial distractions until it can deliver safe superintelligence. It treats safety and capability “as technical problems to be solved through revolutionary engineering and scientific breakthroughs”. Very little about its research is public.
Funding
SSI raised $1 billion in 2024 and was reported to be valued at about $32 billion in 2025. In July 2026 Nvidia reportedly agreed to invest about $5 billion in SSI as part of a compute partnership, according to press reports.
SSI was not among the signatories of the White House Accord on Super Intelligence.
Frequently asked questions
Does SSI sell any products?
No. SSI has said it will not release products until it achieves safe superintelligence. It is funded entirely by investors.
Is SSI's “superintelligence” the same as the government's “Super Intelligence”?
No. SSI means artificial superintelligence: systems far smarter than humans. The U.S. government's Super Intelligence (SI) is a new name for today's AI.
