Privacy Policy
Last updated October 8, 2026
Short version: we collect as little as possible. We don't use tracking cookies, we don't track you across other sites, and we never sell your data.
Who we are
The controller of the personal data described here is the operator of SI.info, whose name and address are to be disclosed. Contact: hello@si.info. Full details are in our legal notice.
What we process, why and for how long
Newsletter
If you subscribe to The SI Brief, we process your email address, the date you signed up and the page you signed up on, so we can send you the newsletter. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). We ask you to confirm your address by email first, so nobody can sign you up without your knowledge.
The newsletter is sent by beehiiv, Inc., which acts as our processor. To see which stories are useful, beehiiv records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, using a small image and redirecting links in the email. You agree to this when you subscribe. You can stop open tracking by turning off images in your email app.
We keep your address while you are subscribed. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email. After you unsubscribe, beehiiv keeps your address marked as unsubscribed so you are not emailed again. If you ask us, we delete it completely within 30 days.
Emails you send us
If you email us (for example a correction, a news tip or a press or advertising enquiry), we process your address, your name and what you write in order to reply. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f)), or taking steps toward an agreement you asked about (Art. 6(1)(b)). Mail is routed by Cloudflare and stored by our email provider. We keep messages as long as we need them to deal with your request, and no longer than two years unless we need them to establish or defend legal claims.
Hosting and security logs
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request in order to deliver the site and protect it from attacks (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f)). Our own logs for the newsletter sign-up form are kept for up to 7 days.
Analytics
We don't currently run any analytics. If we add Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless service that only reports totals such as page views, we will update this section first.
Things that stay in your browser
- The AI → SI Converter runs entirely in your browser. Text you paste into it is never sent to us.
- Site search runs in your browser too, using an index downloaded from our site. We don't record or analyse what you search for.
- If you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
Our fonts are hosted on our own site, so loading a page doesn't send your IP address to a font service.
Who receives your data
Only the service providers named above: Cloudflare (hosting, security, email routing and, if enabled, analytics), beehiiv (newsletter) and our email provider. They process data on our behalf under data processing agreements. We don't sell, rent or trade personal data, and we don't share it with advertisers.
Transfers outside the EU
Cloudflare and beehiiv are based in the United States. Cloudflare is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and also uses the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. beehiiv's transfers are covered by the Standard Contractual Clauses in its data processing agreement. Ask us for a copy of these safeguards.
Advertising
We don't currently show ads. If that changes, we will update this policy before any advertising cookies are used and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting what we did before. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@si.info. We reply within one month.
You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Croatia, the Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP), or the authority where you live or work.
Giving us your data is voluntary. If you don't, the only consequence is that we can't send you the newsletter or reply to your email. We don't make automated decisions or build profiles about you.
Children
SI.info is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has subscribed, tell us and we will delete it.
Readers in the United States
We don't sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined in California law. No third party collects information about your activity across other websites through SI.info. Because we don't track you across sites, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals don't change how the site works.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use subscribers' email addresses, we will announce it in the newsletter before it takes effect.
