- Sundar Pichai · CEO, Google and Alphabet
Google DeepMind is the SI powerhouse inside Alphabet. It combines DeepMind, founded in London in 2010 by Demis Hassabis, Shane Legg and Mustafa Suleyman and acquired by Google in 2014, with Google Brain, Google’s own deep-learning team. The two merged in April 2023.
Landmarks
- AlphaGo (2016): beat world champion Lee Sedol at Go, a decade earlier than many expected.

- AlphaFold (2020–2021): predicted protein structures with near-experimental accuracy. Hassabis and John Jumper shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
- Gemini (2023 onward): Google’s multimodal model family, powering Search’s AI Overviews, the Gemini app and Google Cloud.
